Piet Vroon’s new Ker 46 “Tonnerre” was launched in February 2009 in Auckland and spent a week in the Hauraki Gulf completing the first stage of sea trials and sail testing. “Tonnerre” was designed by Ker Associates and built by Salthouse boats in New Zealand. The boat is currently in transit to Breskens in Holland, her home port, where the second stage of sea trials are planned to take place.

North Sails UK were on hand in New Zealand to assist the owner, boat builders and yacht designer with the first stage of sea trials, representatives from the North Sails UK loft will also be joining the team in Breskens to complete the final sail trials before the boat makes it’s way to the Solent, her base for the 2009 Summer.

“Tonnerre” is scheduled to race in the 2009 RORC series including the UK IRC Nationals, Rolex Fastnet Race as well as the Rolex Middle Sea Race. North Sails UK designed and supplied the inshore and offshore sail inventory which consists of 3DL 860L upwind and V series downwind sails. North Sails staff members Dave Lenz and Frank Gerber will be supporting the team on “Tonnerre” during their campaign for 2009/10.
